What should my salary be ,I have 2 years of experience in a small company. I recently got an offer from an MNC. Now I am drawing 2.5lacs per annum. How much should I ask for without risking the offer?

It depends on the technology you are working on.
For a clear picture, please provide us the technology and your current nature of role (e.g. Developer or Group lead or something...)

See... In general case, Java/J2EE candidate can get around 4.2 to 4.5 lacks per annum. As I've said in another post, I myself was having an offer of 4.5 when I was having 2 years and 2 months of experience.

But it will also depend on your base salary, a normal candidate can ask for 40% to 50% hike. In your case, if your interview was exceptionally good, then you can ask for even more.

Usually MNCs have a general policies at freshers till 2 years experience candidates. They will have a specific salary band and even though you try to negotiate, they will stay in that band only.

According to me, you can ask for 4 to 4.2 if you fear of loosing the opportunity. Take a call...

Dear Arun,

We cann't give you exact figure because of new Policies applied recently on Ranch.

Moderators, now you can realise...e.g A company X is paying around 8-9 LPA for 2+ Years expereince but another company Y is paying around 4-5 LPA for same expereince, Now How do you give someone advice about this question.

And most frankly most HR's are not so much honest about the exact salary scale for a fixed range..

I hope moderators now will reply for this thread....

You can discuss the new policy on the appropriate thread. Keep this thread On Topic i.e. discussing Industry Standard Salaries (not companies) or it gets trashed.

Dear Angela,

I might be wrong, but could you please throw some light on Industry standards.

If I am not wrong Software Industry is running from around last 30 Years probably. But still there are no standards till now.

So please eloborate how can we discuss about Industry Standards.

OK then "industry standard" may not have been the correct term, but I think it's fairly clear I intended "Ballpark figures", ranges, averages ... use your common sense. In no way does a Company need to be singled out in such a discussion.

Dear Arun,

As Angela suggested, we should talk more about ranges.

Well according to my expereince, salary range of 2+Years Expereince holder Professional is floating between 4-10 LPA.

Hope your doubts are more clear now.

Depending on the location and type of company and technology you would move into the salary range will be between 2.5 LPA to [what you can negotiate] amount.

Around 2.5-4 LPA in regular IT companies without specialized knowledge of any technology.
Around >4 LPA to what you can negotiate in regular IT companies with specialized knowledge of niche technologies.
Around 5 LPA in MNCs
The salary can be high in product companies and can be around 8 LPA depending on how good you do in the interviews and are able to convince them that they need you.

Also the location will play a factor Banglore, Hyderabad, Poona will have payscales a bit higher than say Mumbai, Gurgaon Kolkatta or Chennai.
