I noticed in some code they have a separate primary key class? Is this necessary? I use jboss & eclipse. I notice that when I hit the "." there is a primary key class but it doesn't work.

You use ejbPostCreate, as opposed to ejbCreate. A primary key class is needed if you are using more than one (cmp) field as the key.
