about difference and relationship between cache and instance pool

I'm using BEA Weblogic8.1.

Weblogic8.1 provide caching between transaction, relationship-caching, and finders-load-bean(preload all beans returned by finder method in entity bean cache).

I know entity beans reside in instance pool, but I don't know
how entity cache is related to instance pool and entity bean instance?

is it that only anonymous instances stay in instance pool? and identified instances(instance bound with EJBObject and primary key) stay in entity cache?

I believe caching is a value-added feature (not required by the EJB spec) provided by WebLogic whereas instance pooling is a required feature mandated by the spec. In this context the container caches data based on a proprietary algorithm so that data access roundtrips are minimized. Instance pooling focuses mainly on caching the bean instances( and not the data) and therefore I am afraid to draw analogies between the two.

Many of today's top vendors compete in the "icing on the cake" market to distinguish themselves from others by providing features such as improved performance, better manageability etc.
 
Don't get me started about those stupid light bulbs.
