I have been in the job search for a month now and have around 7+ yrs of total IT experience. I have cleared almost all of the interviews that I have attended so far except for one. I just wanted to share that experience with you all.
It was for one of the prestigious MNC - no.2 services company globally who many has bitched about in this forum .
When I went through those posts(before I appeared for the interview) I was actually very skeptical.. what's written here is probably not true.. people have different experiences. But fortunately / unfortunately I din't expect I would go through the same experience.
In the 1st round I cleared the technical interview, the interviewer mentioned you are very good technically. I was happy and was waiting for the call for the 2nd round(senior mgr round).
Nearly after 15 to 20 days.. after me repeatedly calling them(the recruiters), arranged for the 2nd round. The guy who interviewed me was real nuts. He behaved like a school pass-out. One of the questions he asked me was
1) What is the prime thing you look for during the process of KT (Knowledge Transfer)?
I said the prime thing would be to ensure I have acquired complete knowledge of the software/product, I would be responsible for.
For some reason, this guy din't like my answer and he was asking me to think hard for atleast next 30 mins. In the meantime, I gave him several other answers trying to understand what he is actually expecting ..
after all this time.. he kept on saying.. think..think..and the session was over.

I knew what the result was... I was actually laughing at myself and realized how true it was, the experiences of others I read in this forum....

That sounds terrible! I would have walked out if the interviewer fails to acknowledge my honest effort and answer. I would like to be judged be my answer to a particular question, not by how long I take to guess what the interviewer want to me to say!

I have to say, there is a huge difference in work culture between the West and the East, and it�s most obvious on how interviewee and interviewer is approaching an interview. I personally believe �interview� is not a test, but a conversation between a representative of the firm who is interested in me, and me who is interested in benefiting form working with that particular firm � I would be extremely annoyed if the interviewer acts if he is there to test and judge me! Something that I haven�t seen outside India!

Oh my god.. ' Think think..' Thats funny yet ironic at so many levels.

Sorry you had to go through this. Some people just don't get satisfied unless you use the exact same keyword they probably read in some obscure book in their visit to bookshop last night, or found on some random webpage etc. Most likely its not worth to work with these people anyway, so i say move on.

ahhh yes... I know of people that google "<insert programming language here> Interview questions" and then ask people questions out of that set of question. So if you dont know the answer to something from that list or the answers in that list are wrong... god help you

That was funny.
I always enjoyed reading these experiences & found them funny till I recently faced one.
Again, the company involved here was supposedly one of those Indian IT giants. One day I got a call from their HR asking whether I am looking for a change, I replied "no". She requested me to atleast talk to technical panel and check it up, since I might get some irresistable lucrative offer. And eventually she ended up forwarding call to technical panel guy. He just talked briefly about me and scheduled a call at a later time over further discussion.

I some how decided to flow along the flow to see how this all goes.

Technical discussion happened & it went fine. They asked me to join in 7 days. I requested them to tell me what the offer is like. They said they would let me know. Few days later an HR called me up asking stereo-typed HR questions. Most interesting one was the first one that "why are you looking for change" ... now how in the world can they forget that it was they who ultimately "trapped" & forced me into going for interview and now asking me this stupid question. Anyways, after those typical questions she too said she would get back to me with offer in less than 24 hrs.

3-4 days went off without any communication from (and I really didnt complain ), then one day their technical head called me up asking why I havent yet accepted the offer, I replied back asking where is the offer? He said he'll get back.
Next day an HR executive called up asking whether I liked the offer, I replied same (i.e. I havent get any offer). I re-confirmed my email id and snail mail id.
2 days passed by, again technical guy called me up asking (in a frustrating tone) why I didnt send my offer aknowledgement yet. I again replied that I have no offer yet.
Two weeks passed by, again got a call from same HR executive asking when am I joining, Hell, I control my nerves and replied that I haven't receive any offer yet. If they got any offer she can tell me over phone. She, unfortunately, wasn't aware of exact offer & promised me she would get back asap.
A week passed by, again some different HR called up asking the same question, probably checking my patience threshold. This time however I decided to tell that "offer doesn't meets up my expectation & I am not accepting it" so as to close this stupid drama.
Company is still in news making big profits each quarter, I am too enjoying my job touch wood. Probably the only looser in that process was that poor offer letter who never reached where he was destined to !!!

Hi All,

I too motivated to share my interview experiences in Bangalore, India. I attended around 13 interviews here. Of those 13, I found one interview very funny. The company is very small (a startup), they are working in a small apartment. I accepted their interview invitation (somebody called me from that company) because the company name sounds good and I thought its great company with nice curtains

I went for interview, in fact, I worked on J2EE for around 2 years that time and I have NO in depth knowledge of Database stuff. I didn't put any DB related experience/knowledge in cv. Interview started...

The interviewer took me to balcony with two metal chairs and we sat down. He started asking me SQL and PL/SQL questions like what is save point? and cursors etc. I humbly told him that my two years of experience is based on Java only and NOT on db stuff and I also told him that I didn't mentioned that db related technology stuff in my cv. He said ok and again started asking me how to do database design.

Finally, interview was over, another lady came and took interview on Struts with silly questions like who invented struts etc. That went fine. They offered me job and they said I need to handover all my ORIGINAL certificates and previous employer's offer letters to them and sign for two years contract. I said NO THANKS and returned home.

They should have told me this over phone, I am not ready to give my original documents to the employer. I think its irrelavant and I wasted a nice sunny weekend day.

Another experience:

I went for interview by driving 40 km one way, and interview questions are about my experience, family, relocation and expected salary. Finally they said they will get back to me once their client shortlists my cv. I became irritated and told them they can take this so called interview over phone instead of wasting my time. After that I haven't got any news from them.

These kind of practises are very common in India, especially in Bangalore. I think organizations should treat people like assets and NOT like resources.
