i am having internet connection through direct cable(not dial-up).so how can
configure my outlook to send and receive mails.

Not a J2EE question - so you'd be better posting this in the General Computing forum.

The option you are looking for is under Tools>Services... Just add a service which corresponds to the Mail server setting your ISP should have given you.
 
It is sorta covered in the JavaRanch Style Guide.
