Has any one ever created an Entity Bean with out actually mapping it's contents to a database table for persistence? I kow it is not the mainstream, but I have a architectural request for it and I have never used a Entity bean in that manner. If so, can some one provide some info/example of the descriptor?

Thank you

Joe

What is the reason for this architectural request?

The architect wants to retain a collection (ArrayList actually) of references, in the event the application server crashed. Obviously a session bean will not suffice. However, they do not want to map to the DB or persist the references in a table.

Well if the appserver crashed, you are anyway going to lose that ArrayList!

It is sorta covered in the JavaRanch Style Guide.
