Hi, I am a fresher.I have got production support project.I want to know whether production support is inferior to development? Does development have more growth oppurtunity than support?Dooes it involve less coding? If given a chance which should i go far?
I have got a job in good company working only in finance domain. My project is of Investment Banking Domain. The client is Deutsche Bank
What you should go for depends on your interest. Are you sure that you will be developing new applications all the time in the other company ? Which domain would you choose to go for ? Think about it for a while and then decide what you want to do
Production Support mostly would involve -Release of application -Co-ordination with other Global Team -24*7 Support -High Pressure -Checking Logs everytime for any failure. -Documentation -Finding Root Cause and sending mails -Always on Phone ...Cannot think much ..to convince you to go for Development Job..since you are just at the beginning of career...go for development.
Stay in production support, if it means some bug fixing and some development. Use your time to fine tune your tech part. Looking at others codes can also provide good insight on software development. If your current role doesnt provide any chance of writing codes and your passion is to write codes then ask PM to shift you to some other project. Reading books and looking others codes are fine, but after some you have to do the make your hand dirty by coding.
can i shift to development after sometime with the current job exp
Of course but it will be difficult later, say after 2 year. I also worked as prod support, trainer, doc writer in my first 2 years of career (99-01). Then I shifted to coding. Still now many companies dont consider that 2 years as relevant.
