This is a general DTD declaration for a web.xml file:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<web-app xmlns="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/j2ee" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" version="2.4" xsi:schemaLocation="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/j2ee http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/j2ee/web-app_2_4.xsd">

My question is, how my application resolve the dtd when is not on-line?
http 's addresses are not reachable, how does it do the validation?

thanks

Hi Marco,

It wont. I remember about an year ago Sun server was down and we couldnt run our applications. Finally I got pissed off and one day I copied the whole dtd from their site and deployed it locally to one of our servers. Finally I changed all xmls to point to this new site and we could peacefully develop our app. However the next week everything was back to normal :-)
Regards.

The Intellij IDEA IDE for example has a mapping .dtd file on the harddisk for each URI, so when u mess up with a tag it imediatly highlights it so i guess the your appserver has the same, if it can't find it maybe then it goes online. Other servers may not even be interested in that. They would just do a check to see if all the tags have matching closing tags and all.

For most of the part I can tell you that if the site is down, the parsing will fail. Reasons are obvious and like I said I went through this once last year.
Regards.
