EAI is an excellent field.

It stands for Enterprise Application Integration and as the name suggests it deals with cross-platform enterprise level application integration.

Ppl in the EAI domain get extensive exposure on asynchronous communication technolgies like messaging etc, web services and SOA.

I don't know about companies in Pune. In Bangalore, I know about webMethods

TIBCO is another big player in EAI. IBM's MQ Websphere is very big with financial institutions.

I am working in a EAI product.I am really enjoying my work as EAI developer , much more interesting than UI work. Many things to learn.
As more and more services are made open these days , integration have a great market.
SOA and web services are the heart of this.I do not think that there are many companies in this field in india.

Exposing interfaces for integration of legacy systems are even more interesting.

There are different types of work in EAI

1. Adapter development
2. EAI Tool development/enhancement/support
3. EAI implementation expert
4. Integration Architect/spe******t/analyst

The kind of work you do depends on the company and project. Typically in a EAI product company, the first two are the main work. EAI implementation typically require deep knowledge of EAI tools like Tibco Rv, Webmethods, Seebeyond, WLI etc. The last job is more of understanding the integration requirements and coming out with appropriate integration approach based on various criteria.

When you work with JMS and SOA with Websphere you end up using MQSeries
which is a part of EAI.
