We have an application which caters to multiple sub applications. For example yahoo has sub apps like messanger, briefcase etc.

We need to have a consistent look and feel for every sub application when the user clicks the corrosponding tab on the top navigation. The main application basically is a suite of application with a common login.

The question is to whether the package all the sub apps in a single EAR file or can the sub apps be splitted in different EARS/JARS?
If yes then how will they communicate becuase the top navigation needs to remain the same for every sub app whereas every sub app will be deployed differently.

I hope i am clear in my question.

Gavi,
We have the same scenario and chose to use different EARs for ease of deployment. We have common GUI standards and stylesheets for the look and feel. We also have a common navigation component. It gets the navigation from the database and displays it in the right spot of every screen.
