Kindly guide me whether there are good opportunity for SCJP 5 certified fellows after 7 years of hard core Mechanical Engineering experience, like me. I am planning to take SCJP in a couple of months.

Just based on SCJP it is difficult to get job. In many companies they expect either experienced people or fresher. You wont be treated as fresher or experienced based on SCJP. Please dont take my words negatively.

If you want to enter into IT field, as you have 7yrs functional experience better to look into SAP openings based on you area of experience.

Good luck

I think if you can do both certification scjp and scwcd and if you have a good feel of coding .
than this is just a matter of convincing the recruiters , and you can get a very good job .

the above two exams has got nothing to do with coding at all.
you will gain only bookish knowledge.
runtime coding is different world.
i would agree better move into SAP.its a good good world.

I would also suggest you to look for a career in functional field(may be SAP functional).Holding any certificate will not make you more eligible in any sense.
Experience is something which only comes from real time spent on coding, bookish knowledge many times fails.

Hi Mrinal !

SCJP, although an excellent thing, won't give you ANY job, it will simply move your resume towards resumes stack top as experienced IT pros with certs will be prefered to similarily experienced IT pros without certs, but nothing more.

Yes with some training. I am not sure if I understood your question exactly. But compare to getting a job in J2EE field it is easier to get job in SAP field with some functional experience(I mean Mechanicl experience) and with some training.
