Has JEE 5.0 officially been released? The way http://wwww.java.sun.com describes it seems to suggest that it has.

However the JEE 5.0 Specification is at the close of public review and not at the final release version.

So I am wondering if it has been officially released, if not when is it scheduled to be released???

It is scheduled to be released later this year.

I think GlassFish will enter beta in february and in mid year both it and the JEE 5 will be released.

Any special reason you are interested in this?

I am a developer, but I am really interested in market dynamics. I think JEE5 is a critical release. This is the point at which Java catches up alot with .NET, with JSF, simplified Web Services and EJB 3.0.

The longer they wait the bigger risk the technology runs of increasing obsolesence.

.NET 3.0 and C# 3.0 scheduled for the end of 2006, but probably realistically 2007 represents a massive update to .NET. 2.0 was not that big a deal in my view, but C# 3.0 represents an equivalent jump in the .NET world that Java to J2EE did with server side java.

The DotNet Query Language (C Omega and LinQ), Presentation, Communication and Workflow APIS are enormous in scope.

Therefore in order for Java to be on par with .NET JEE 5 has to be out the door as soon as possible in my view.
