Mastering EJB by EdRoman is a very good book. You can download it from:

Hi,
You could use the JMS tutorial from Sun.It uses the Sun J2ee server and is good for beginners.

Hi,
Sorry, it is the j2ee tutorial, not the JMS one.

Sorry once again for the mistake.

Every one of us have gone through a very "memorable" first ever Hello World EJB apps. For starters, it can be both confusing and intimidating. So here's a tip.

Do you use an app server with an integrated IDE? If so, you can just try to use a wizard to automatically create the EJB, create a client, and even deploy everything at the click of a button. Granted, you may not get the "kick" out of handcoding everything. But the fact is, hardly anyone handcodes an EJB these days. Either ocde generation or DI through lightweight frameworks like Spring does all the plumbing magic. You can still learn a lot by inspecting the code that is generated, and even tweaking it.

It is sorta covered in the JavaRanch Style Guide.
