Hi,
Could you please share some experiences in CTC negotiations.
How to quote first salary expectation having mentioned "negotiable" in the expected CTC section ?

Thanks in advance!

First ask your friends who have similar experience in same technology, how much they get paid. Then you will come to an idea.

Well, that question is not specific to Rohit only. It's a general one. How to negotiate in salary?

I answered for this. And this answer is applicable to all.
I dont think anybody could tell how to negotiate. It is a skill.
I have read lot of books on how to negotiate. But still my negotiating skill is below average.

True.
My question really is how we can decently yet professioanlly have a salary negotiation ?
In other words What are the "right" things one can do ?

Thanks in advance!

Hi All

IMHO Nego. is the process rely on your homework.

Before directly asking the amount do homework and you are able to justify the amount you are asking for.

1.Do home work
Similar tech, domain, company ...how much they are paying ?
Try to know what exactly they are looking for and how much you can fit in it
How was your performance in tech interview ?
Whats your current CTC ?

2. After considering all those things derive a range .
3. Be firm about the min value of Range and stick to it

Finally most important thing is you are able to justify the amount you are asking for.

Yes. I very, very rarely recommend a book I haven't read.

I got an offer from a company which offered me a 35% hike over whatever am currently getting but this month I got a hike in my current company...So now the new offer effectively works out to only a 20% hike...So can ranchers give me some idea about renegotiating the offer...?

You can talk to that company about the hike you got here and demand more.

My advice is after all research if you find that Rs X is the salary you deserve then ask for X*1.2, as there will be bargain and you have to cut short your salary to give HR a saving face.
Forget about CTC, ask what will be the net take away for you, after all deduction including tax. Bargain on net take away, dont get mislead on CTC or you will find later all junk things has been added in your CTC to inflate it to meet your demand.
My 2 cents

I think, you can go for Negotiation only when you done interview very well and impressed the interviewer and most importantly you profile suits the requirement perfectly.
