I want to develop the email client application.
The client should be able to send request to the pop3 / imap /smtp server to get no. of messages in the inbox, write new mails, read mails, etc.
Now my question is what should i use to send request to server i.e use perl modules or use php modules or or something other that u suggest.

thanks in advance

You are posting this question in the EJB and Other J2EE Technologies and asking whether to develop the client in perl or php? perl & php no-where related to J2EE.
Anyway - to answer your question: few more clarifications are required.

* Is this a thick client or thin client?
* Since you are developing this; what j2ee technologies you are familiar with?
* Is this experimental or serious (i.e are the technology / hardward/ software has been already decided)?

My recommendation for a thin email client :

1. Struts / Webwork as the frontend

2. Use Apache Common's Email component to send and receive

3. MySQL as the datastore

4. Tomcat Servlet Engine
