How many times have you posted up a stack trace or some custom tags and they turned into some goofy smilies?

Wow, that's distracting! Would be nice to have smarter parsing that could say, exclude smilies from [code/] tags.

Or how about a little check box that turns them off in the entire post? Kind of like the one under the smilies that says "disable smilies in this post"?

;) :p

Not evaluating smilies inside code tags does make sense, and I'll take a look to see what I can do about that. Unfortunately this section of the codebase is unusually... baroque, and it's usually not as easy to change things as I would like. Might be worth some effort though, as people routinely overlook the "disable smilies" checkbox (and it's not obvious to newcomers that this should be necessary anyway).

That is already a feature Fred. What is your point?

my point was that there already is a feature that lets you disable smilies. As jim points out, it may not be obvious, but is is there.
