This is a rather silly question as the title says Pro but I was wondering if the book would be OK for someone like me who has no EJB experience to learn about EJBs??

Thanks.

Well, while it be better to have EJB experience, you could still read it. But, you should also know that it covers part of the spec. The JPA and Entity Beans Spec portion.

George,

"Pro EJB 3: Java Persistence API" was written primarily to introduce people to the persistence part of the EJB 3 spec and then carry them on to intermediate and some advanced usage. Having said that, the book also includes an entire chapter on the container components, like session beans, that was meant to help people get started on that part of the spec as well.

On the plus side it will not confuse a beginner with the older versions of the spec and goes right to the simple concepts of the new spec in a straight-forward way. On the other hand if you want to buy only one book and are interested in the entire spec then it may not be enough for you. It will cover persistence better than any other book, but the rest of the spec less (hence its name!). If you are not primarily interested in the persistence part of the spec then I would highly recommend taking a look at it in a bookstore to see if it meets your needs.

Hope this helps,

-Mike
