Hi,
What is job profile for a "Production Support Analyst".
I must admit that I do not know much about this position.
Also what does should be ready to work in "24X7 model" mean?
How is work schedule in 24x7?
Also are there higher chances for onsite in such position?

Thanks in Advance!

In my company we have two types of roles for Production Support. One role are people who watch our overnight jobs. That person knows to some extent how to trouble-shoot jobs to get them started in case of failure. Otherwise they will contact the right person who can fix the problem. Mainly they watch critical jobs though. This first role is not onsite.

Our day time production support is more skilled. They have to be more knowledgeable people because they are business facing. If our business has an issue they call this group. The group needs to know how all of our applications work and how to quickly fix issues. This area is also on call on a rotating basis to help out the overnight support. These people usually come from the business, and also have a desire to know more about how the technology works. This second role must be onsite in my company.

In my company 24x7 means that on a rotation you may have to be available outside traditional working hours.

I would like to make a point here from a production support analyst point of view.I think the below are the main advantages of being in support.
* You will get a oppurtunity to understand the business process very closely.
* You are analytical skill, technical will improve.
* You will come to know the holistic view of the whoole project.

I know many of the designers, architects, consulatants in my company are started their career as a production support analyst. They have very good knowledge of technical as well as business.
We may work in various technologies, but at the end of the day everybody is delevering for business. So defenitely business knowledge would be beneficial.

I would suggest you to work as a production support analyst for some time before you become a designer.

Cheers

I came from QA/QC background so had done some 24/7 support also. usually 24/7 means you work in shift (3 shift is the norm). But you may be on call which means 3am FIRE FIRE FIRE!!

from support or tester you see more business rule (business knowledge), when you work with users. I guess it depend on the track if you trying to follow.

best of luck

Does one actually work at client site?
I mean getting a call at 3 AM and getting to work makes it sound so!?

Rohit,
If you have 2-3 yr expr, then as per my knowledge do not go for the offer. If you have more expr and getting client side exposure, surely go for this job.
But you need to clear before joining, where you will work at offshore or client side?
There are fewer chances to move from Offshore (India) to Onsite in this kind of profiles.
Go for development or migration projects as once development done, you will get onsite assignment for UAT, and further enhancement.

Yes I am around 2.5 yrs experience.
Job mentioned is in number 1 Service company in India. I am not much bothered about brand but want to know more about the job profile.
I am just testing the waters to see how the Industry interviews go on..and job trends...before I actually get into applying at various other companies.
I have been in core product development team for past 2.5 yrs. I have good chance of landing in some product based companies if I try. Job satisfaction should be good and good work life balance is important to me.
I like giving some time for myself on the weekends..(as we all are expected to )

Just thought of sharing this information as some useful tips might come up from your side that may help make a better decision.

Thank in advance!
