Before giving you any suggestions, one question: if you had/have interest in java why in the first place did you go for DBA thing?

Anyways, certifications dont land you somewhere good but add a degree of credibilty- thats all. You can have no certifications and working for SUN or can have and number of them with not such attractive job. So its better to sort out your preferences first and then proceed.

Having additional cerifications won't hurt you but is always a plus. So go for it, all the best.

I would advice you to take SCJP rather than going for OCP. As said by the other rancher certifications will not land you up in a job but in your initial stages it'll definetly help your CV to be shortlisted amoung all other CV's.

If you are really looking to be in java, i would suggest to go for the SCJP. Also as other ranchers stated, certifications does not gurantee a job, but its a good start.

But to be in any domain, you need databases. So ideally it would be nice to learn both, though you can learn as much as you can.

All the best.
