Hi.
For those who have been reading this :
https://coderanch.com/t/32008/Jobs/careers/Did-say-anything-wrong
I got the job !
I'm too excited and scared to death.
I'm 23 years old and this is my first job.
Tell how to behave, what to wear ?
Usually I wear Jeans and T-shirts (you know, casual clothes).
Is this ok ?
I mean I'm not an architect ,manager or a doctor, I'm a programmer, there is no need to suits.
BTW, What is the manager ? and what is his role ?
Today, they gave me a paper to sign about information security, meetings security, the privacy, not telling any body about the projects, not sharing the code with anybody outside the company, lablabla ...
I read is a couple of times and signed it.
So, your feedback is welcome.

Did you have one of those "running the guantlet" interviews -- where each team member interviews you? If you did, do you remember how they were dressed? If you didn't, when you walked around during the interview, do you remember how everyone else was dressed?

Congrats. And good luck...

I signed a paper of privacy, remember ?
I can tell it is not big payments but actually I don't care (we have to start somewhere and I'm not Bill Joy to be sure).
What I care about is the shot they gave me.
I'm fresh with no real world experience.

Well, the architect and the manager were wearing suits.
The girl from the HR was wearing casual.

John, wear a white oxford shirt, a necktie, formal pants and black shoes the first day of work. It's important to make a good first impression even amongst your coworkers. Look around and see how your coworkers dress and then dress in a similar way from the second day on.

I hope that helps.

Congrats. These are all questions you should ask before you start. You can talk to either your manager or HR. Although it may seem like a silly question to ask, a good manager would much rather appreciate seeming silly questions (which show initative and a willingness to learn) than for you to make faux pas.

If tomorrow is your first day of work, show up in dress pants, dress shoes, and a dress hirt (button down, one you would wear with a suit). Unless you're working at a bank or law firm, I doubt you need a suit. if you want to be safe, carry a tie with you and/or leave a suit in your car.

Be sure to ask you manager or HR questions about dress, hours, codes on conduct, etc. If this is a company of at least a few hundred people you're likely to have some HR training your first day which should cover some of this.

Wear whatever you want....you already got the job. Ok, not really. Just wear a collared shirt tucked into some khakis and nice black shoes and you should be fine

Well, I think when you begin a new job is very important trying not to gossip with people about others. I tell you this because I've seem many people from a job I had which were fired, because they used to tell about other people's life, and the boss didn't like that.
About what you wear you must watch what the other people from your group is wearing.
Also try not to flirt with all beauty girls you see at the company, because one of them might be your boss's girlfriend.

Good that you got your job. Always the first one is the toughest one and my best wishes to you.

Also regarding your dress, you should try to wear the what others in your company wears. But if you are not sure, be with a nice shirt, pant, and also have a tie handy with formal shoes.

All the best.
