Session problem with spring, dwr and url-rewriting  RSS feed

I've created an web-application with spring that makes use of dwr. Everything works ok when I use cookies. When I configure the app-server (tomcat) not to use cookies but URL-rewriting it also works except for one thing.
When I perform a dwr-call on the first page of my application, so the first response, I receive a null-pointer on the beans that I retrieve from the session. It seems that at this point it doesn't use or cannot find the correct session.

Dwr-calls after the first response work fine.

Anybody an idea?
It is sorta covered in the JavaRanch Style Guide.
