Apart from the web layer are there any ways that ejbs ( session beans ) can be invoked ?

can a swing / awt java application make calls to ejb ?

Very basic question but wanted to clear my doubts .

Thanks,
~satish

Yes. I suggest you have a read of the J2EE tutorial. It will help give you an understanding of the basics of EJBs.

A Simple java application which runs in command prompt can be used to invoke the methods of a bean. I think there are lot of topics in this forum about invoking a bean method from a stand-alone java application(specially HF EJB example)

hope this solves your doubt.....
