I am working in a application which has presentation layer, Service layer and persistence layer. Spring serve presentation and service layer. Now the architect introduces a new layer called EJB thin layer. EJB thin layer will receive request from client and forward to service layer. I do not understand why they introduce and what is the pros of this. Any please make me clear with this?

Receive request from client and forward to service?
Well, in my opinion it would be a Controller. A servlet would make that job easly, even with the client is remote.

EJB could be the service layer, but now a "middle" layer. Ask to your architect what is his/her idea . Who knows, you can give him a better solution
