What are these fields in an EntityBean class? I understand that they are the actual columns in the database but why do we have to make them abstract in the Bean class?

This is in EJB 2.1? The container generates a subclass that implements the fields for us.

Yes, it is EJB 2.x as I'm right now working on it.
