I'm sure this has been raised somewhere else, but I can't find it!
At certain times of the day, I am starting to have issues with the performance of the Javaranch forum. If I access it in the early morning (UK time), the site runs really quickly, but around midday (I guess that's early morning for you in the US) the site can take over 10seconds to load a single page. Recently, things have deteriorated further - at some points the site has become unusable, giving 503 errors "Service Unavailable." with an error page saying that more fresh horses are being rounded up.
Just wanted to enquire as to whether others were finding this problem, and to ask if anything could be done. I really love the forum and find it really helpful (and satisfying to help others), and it would be a shame if it couldn't keep up with demand.
[Mark G]: Is it sheer volume of traffic? DB slowdown (due to increasing size)?
It seems to be primarily the number of requests, often from webcrawlers at certain times. The ever-increasing amount of data may be a factor as well. Beyond that, we're looking at things we can do to improve the responsiveness to individual requests.
[Mark G]: Is it time the forum is replaced?
Probably. That's sort of happening gradually now, piece by piece, but with increasing activity of late after a prolonged period of stagnation.

Thanks for your replies. Just wanted to raise awareness of this issue, and it seems that you guys are already on the case.
