Calling a com object from Java is no small task. I recommend that you try a third party solution to aid in doing this. Linar JIntegera is one which works well.
Hope this helps

thanx Carl but I have already explored the Linar's Jintegra before placing this query. I want a took that is a freeware. JIntegra is not a freeware.
It would be of great help to me if you can suggest me some other tool.

Ran into this JCom and thought of you. Give us a review of how well/poorly it works.
Thanks

VJ++ can generate a Java Wrapper on COM Object for you. The problems is it uses some MS specifics. However, if your COM object does not have UI stuff, it might be OK.

I am not sure how would vj++ will help me in making my application platform independent. I don't have UI stuff in my com object. Also let me know whether my client should have visual studio installed on his machine to run the application.
If someone could send me the code it would be of a great help to me.
