i have made a project on online buying and the addthecart stuff now i want to put a feature of a search engine
many sites have search engine facility for the user. so do they use a special tecnology for the making of these search engines or is it a normal database query which is fired after asking for the keyword from the user
please explain

There are lots of ways of implementing a search engine.
The "slow" way is to crawl your web site looking at every page for the pecified keyword(s) every time a request is made. A faster way is to crawl the site in advance and store some sort of index. If you are comfortable with using a database for this it would be a good solution.
You will need to refresh the database from time to time, to make sure it is up to date with the current state of the pages on the site.
