Hi,
I would like to know the ways possible for interaction b/w Java applications and mainframes other than MQ series(if any)?
Thanks,
Chidananda.

You can use a DB2 database just like an Oracle database with JDBC:ODBC calls. Well. . . I've SEEN this done, I personally have never done it.

Chidananda,
There's also at least one Type 4 (i.e., 100% Java) driver available that will allow you to use JDBC to interact with a DB2 database on a mainframe. It's available from HiT Software (www.hit.com), but I don't know how expensive it is.

Howdy Fellow Ranchers,

We use DB2 Connect with the com.ibm (TYPE 4) drivers to access DB2 tables on a IBM 3494 Mainframe. It's pretty cool. We have Batch COBOL/DB2 programs which still run nighty and do all kinds of updates from data entry. Then we have server-side JSP and Servlets which produce web content.
Go to: http://www-4.ibm.com/software/data/db2/udb/downloads.html
Or: http://www-4.ibm.com/software/data/db2/db2connect/

We use Websphere,
We can bring up about 1000 rows in hmtl table format of a select from a million row DB2 table on an IBM mainframe in about 2 seconds, using a jdbc servlet.
It takes me about a minute just to get TO db2 on the mainframe.
