Does anybody have any idea how to access the scancodes for each key from Java?
Thanks.

I think that you are talking about a KeyEventListener which can identify VK_A, VK_B etc. as well as VK_ENTER, VK_TAB etc.

Yes, kinda. But I specifically want to be able to change their functionality and I think accessing the scancodes themselves is the only way I'd have a hope of getting into that.

Well, when you listen for a KeyEvent and it is from a key that you care about, in the handling code you can consume the keystroke, or change it to show something else instead.
You could catch all the VK_X keystrokes and everytime you find one change the color of the screen or whatever.

OH, Paul, this is you again. I think you need to use some native code for the stuff that you are trying to do.

How did you know it was me?
I've been looking into this ever since and I think what I need to do is switch off the Num Lock key by updating the registry. Apparently I can make a key do nothing. All I have to do then is hope I can still see it from Java to do whatever I need to do with it.
Regards.
Paul
