Property Rates in mumbai

Power situation

Mumbai is the darling of the politicos as far as power is concerned, its has become sort of an ego issue. with distant subarbs facing power cuts due to shortsightedness of the "powers" to be, mumbai is quarantined from the power cuts. So if you get a place to stay in mumbai rest assured for now.

Safety

I would still count mumbai high on the safe counter, exceptions are a fact of life but for a regular guy mumbai is safe. I travel home around 12-1 in the night sometimes and its not big deal.

Weather

In Summer mumbai is hot but is bearable
In Rains it rains hard.. so if you have a problem with getting wet you are in trouble. I personally found out long ago, actually when in school itself that carrying a umbrella or a wind sheather is a waste of time and energy, you get wet anyways.
In Winter it does not get too cold and is the best season after the rains to be in mumbai.

Do you have any budget in mind.. nariman point is one of the costliest places in mumbai to be staying especially if you are going to be picking up the rent tag. Its a different matter if the company pays for the rent though?

If you could give me an idea of the max rent that you would like to pay, i can try giving you suggestions. Also if you have preferences like availability of food late at night, transport availability or you have your own vehicle so on and so forth.

I guess since you have been asking about nariman point you need to travel to that place for work. This is my assumption by the way please correct me if I am wrong.

Based on the figure I can suggest some of the central or western subarbs... please have a look at some of the areas in the central subarbs in the link i provided. As you would not be travelling by your own vehicle you most probably be travelling using the local train service so it makes sense to pick up a spot near a station.

Malad to jogeshwari on the western side and Ghatkopar and mulund on the central side have good options to eat out especially if you are dependent on home cooked food of the self variety also they are connected by train and bus to the heart of the city quite well. It will be a bit of an hassle travelling as these subarbs are not quite city centre..

Vashi on the harbour line would not be a bad idea as well but it is connected to the city by the harbour lines which is not as frequent as the western or central ones...and it also lacks a bit on the entertainment scene though the traffic scene in vashi will be less chaotic as compared to some of the areas i previously mentioned.

Welcome to mumbai and have a ...

The site I posted just gives an comparision of the prevelant rents... you can get in touch with property agents for renting out a place.

You can also check out paying guest options which in western terms is a B&B accomodation...

People use buses for intercity commute. for getting in from the subarbs trains are the fastest though not the best modes of transport.

BEST (Brihanmumbai Electric supply and transport undertaking) has sufficient number of buses connecting the various points in the main city as well as teh subarbs as well.

H,

I am Ketan and I stay at Charni Road which is kinda 20 minutes by bus from Nariman Point

1. Nariam Point is the most posh locality in Mumbai with Mantralaya,National Centre for Performing Arts(NCPA), World Trade Center,
Inusrance offices,Makers Chambers,Stock Exchange offices and all the big wig offices close by

Pros: You will never face power cut offs and one of the cleanest places
South Mumbai never faces flooding.Even during disaster of 26th July 05,South Mumbai was not a problem place. This is because of reasonable drainage system in South Mumbai and also because there are no huts or slums around

Cons:Real Costly.Honestly with 5000,you will not find any place to stay in all probability

2.To travel to Nariman Point, you have to take a bus from Churchgate
So just train travel is not enough
However you will find loads of buses with a frequency of 3 minutes

3.Guess you havent been to Mumbai earlier, when you eventually see most of Mumbai, you will come to know the differnce between Nariman Point and mumbai suburbs

4. Stay some where around Dadar and travel by train upto Churchgate(19 minutes by fast train and 23 minutes by slow train)

Bus from Churchgate to Nariman Point should be 15 minutes

Avoid Harbour lines(chances of getting flooded are more)

All the best

Hi,

Just thought of this

Actually at Bombay Central, there is this YMCA where people can stay

You wont get a lot of Privacy and the room would be small but thats fair

I think you can make it in less than 5k there

Chruchgate---Marine Lines--Charni Road---Grant Road--Bombay Central..

Dats the railway route and stations

12 minutes by train from Bombay Central to Churchgate

Regards
ketan
