Hi.. This is about my experience in interview process of one CMM level 5 company in mumbai. Well it all begin with technical written test. I cleared it, then there was one technical interview. Followed by the interview i was given a feedback that my profile suits better for some other project and the concerned person is not there so will have to come again. I said no problem and went there again in weekend. There were too many candidates present that day so interview was very late. There i had one more tech interview and was told that since it is very late so PM interview will be in next week. I went there again and cleared the PM round. They then said that there are no rooms available right now so your HR would be telephonic and some HR will call in 2-3 days. I was very happy. Then that week passed and the HR person did not called, then i called them to ask what happened. I was told that my salary expectation was very high. I was ready to negotiate so they told me that they will call next day. But for two more weeks they did not respond. So i called them again and now they said that your current salary itself is very high and we offer you less then your current.
what i wanted to ask that is it same way that all HR people are. I mean it is really frustrating that you clear entire interview process and HR person is not ready to tell you what they are offering.... in spite of clearly mentioning expected salary and current salary in the form that was given to me
It does not supprise me. Many companies/managers are less organized and under more pressures than others. When I interviewed at SGI my first interview was on a shipping doc for 6 hours during major disaster. I was brought back for 2 more days of interviews each lasting 8 hours jumping between conference rooms and cubicals.
I must say that most interviews never returned any response at all. I usually wrote the position off if 2 weeks went by without hearing anything.
Generally, if they don't plan to hire you, its up to the HR to reveal what they may pay.
If your frustation was because of reason that you were subjected to so many rounds of interviews, following by asking you to wait for weeks even though your current CTC is more than their budget then I would agree with you. The HR must have screened your resume in the very first step before forwarding it to the manager.
One point I agree with is that the recruitment process was not organised. What might have happened is that you cleared the rounds and showed your competence for a position which did not had the 'budget' to hire you.
Also sometimes HR people believe that they can 'convince' a candidate to join the company at slightly (around 10% more) salary or even at the same salary, if the candidate is from a comparatively smaller company.
I too had the similar experience but a level up to what you had, i was offered with the pay package which is considerably less than that of my present compensation, though i had not just mentioned the CTC (Cost to the Company) details in the application form but also had given a copy of my payslip!
What to do? What to say?
As some one said, CMM does not mean to guarantee the behavior of people, i suppose!
I also would go with arul's suggestion of not just relying on one single company/project.
I had experience with one branded company. How HR people do mistakes. First HR called up me but did not tell me anything about the position. Fixed up telephonic round. Then technical person asked me first question tell me something about yourself. I told my total expereince. He said oh your experience is more. He said he will talk to HR. I said ok. Telephonic round ended in two sentences. Then HR called up me in the evening and said we had a discussion, he will call you again for telephonic interview, I said ok. Then technical person called up me. I answered all his question. Then they called up me for personal interview. In HR interview, they were offering role as Sr. software engineer, when my current role is team leader. I said what made you expect that I will accept this? I left the interview. They should have told me in the first telephonic discussion itself. It was mistake from my side aswell I did not ask them anything about role till the final HR interview. But normally after any interview, companies give chance to candidate to ask questions if they have. But this company was in little hurry I guess, they did not give me any chance to ask my queries after technical interivew and called me to personal interivew.
Thanks all for their opinion ... i think IT people should get used to it. And about the company... I was even ready to join the company had they offered me same package, since it was one of most reputed Indian BFSI product company...but HR never gave me any figure and they failed to get a sincere and efficient employee
