Hi Naveen,

It all depends on the company which you are going to join.
But looking at current market you should not look for anything less than 25% more than your current cost to company.

If case you are looking for change in Bangalore , then you should not look for anything less than 30%.

As I have already said , it all depends. There are some companies which might give you even more than 30% hike.

I have seen people with configuration management skillset to get even a 100% hike as such resources are in demand.

hi naveen,
There are many cases like you in the current IT industry who been exploited. Why i am saying so is that today the competition is too fast and company's do pay well if you perform exceptionally good in atleast the interviews. Company's will sometime astonished you by there pay package if you are right match from them, now coming to your question in NCR region if you are performing good in interviews, you can get anywhere between 6 - 7 lakhs per annum. That is what guys had got. but again, it depends how you perform.

Yeah, exceptional for 3 years!!! And how much developers with 6-7 years experience get in that company?

I already know ANT, MAVEN -- am I game for 25 LPA with my 7.5 years experience?? I also want 100% hike, I got only 3-4% this year...time to look around I guess!

4.5 LPA for 3 years is *NOT* exploitation by any standard. The general trend should be around 4 to 7 LPA for this experience.

Sachin Wankhade,
Welcome to JavaRanch!

In an effort to help you get the most from our forums, we've compiled a
list of tips for asking questions here. You can find the list in our
FAQ section here.
In particular please see:
UseRealWords

Abbreviations such as "u" or "ur" in
place of "you" and "you are" or "you're" confound language translation software making
it hard for our non-English speaking members to read your posts.
"plz" is not a word in the English language.

Using code tags to circumvent the forum's filters only makes your text harder to read because it disables word wrapping. In this case, it made everyone's posts harder to read.

Again, welcome to JavaRanch and thank you for contributing.

Thats great figures and still want 100%. .Generally junior people might get 100% hike.Having abnormal salary and expecting 100% hike would not be wise - don't you think so?

well by exploitation i means strictly over here was not getting paid as per your caliber. If you really can research you will find out that 4.2 for 3 yrs of experience is really the cheapest bargain for today.

Hey, I don't get 25 LPA!!! The calculation is after (optimistic) 100% hike!!

I would *love* to get it though and would be my dream to reach there...someday!!

Frankly I think anyone above 10 LPA is overpaid - including myself. But this is the industry trend - and if you're getting lesser than market rate- it puts a question mark on your ability!

I know people with 3 years experience getting 3.2 LPA and quite happy with that. Maybe companies pay only to people who demand...but then that could have cascading frustration effect on the employees.

If a person with 3 years experience is getting 7 LPA, that will sure frustrate a person with 6 years experience if he's only getting 7.5 LPA.

But do you think that the effort that I have put in getting the certification will have any effect on negotiating my package?

Well...it might be a good idea to get a general idea about the companies pay scale for your experience before you quote your expectation. Sometimes, if you quote too high - the won't get back to you to negotiate!

But Manish , do the companies ever reveal how much package they are offering to the employees ? Is it through only your contacts or you can have some resources from where you can know how much the respected company is paying ?

Are my certifications will help me to have some increase in my package ?

Looking at the companies which are in NCR(Delhi, Gurgaon, NOIDA) region, I think there are very few companies which will pay you 7L for 3 years of experience, if it were Bangalore or Pune then it would have been easier to find such companies.

What makes you think that a guy with 7.5 years of experience commanding a 10+ LPA salary is an overpaid professional?

I think a good salary ,at least in Bangalore, for an IT professional is 2n+x where n = no. of years of experience and x could be again some percentage of 2n.

Ofcourse I'm referring to good product development companies.Even in good services companies , one can command such remunerations.

One of my college juniors with a little over one year of experience got an offer of 6+ LPA in q***.... in Bangalore last year around December.Ofcourse he was a smart guy but was not with a CSE or ECE background.Probably his IITian tag added to his calibre.

It's only software where salaries are that high. A close friend who has done MS in Ophthalmology is being offered 10k per month to start with. A close friend's sister who has done with close to 2 years experience with MS in ENT was offered 7k per month in private hospital in New Mumbai. Another MS in Ophthalmology with 3 years experience in one organizational hospital is getting around 3.4 LPA and she is highly paid as per their standards.

Understand that software propfessionals are indeed highly paid - and when people start arguing about this being reasonable, I wonder if they are even in touch with their won world and other professionals there! Also if you read the complete context, it was like this --

[blockquote]Frankly I think anyone above 10 LPA is overpaid - including myself. But this is the industry trend - and if you're getting lesser than market rate- it puts a question mark on your ability![/blockquote]

Besides I didn't mention 10 LPA for any particular experience, as per current software industry standards, for 7.5 years expereince 10 LPA is in fact less.

Also, I don't think 2n+x can be considered as a gospel, things are rosy up to 4 years, after that growth is slow.

To the OP :

Certifications do add value to your resume, but they do not necessarily add significantly to your salary per certifications. Unless of course you have certifications like PMP or domain certificates required by the company.

I think Manish correctly pointed out that such huge salaries currently are existing only IT industry...because it has direct link with company's earnings in dollars or pounds...Also considering cureent booming state of Indian economy and appreaciation of Ruppee it easy to guess that some point down the line IT salries will become earthly...Also the point about stagnancy in pay after few years, say 7-8 years, stands valid in today's scenario because after those many years it will all depend upon your job profile...for example pre-sales is definitely gonna fetch you more than project management...I sometimes wonder being just B.E. (No MBA) wont help me in the long run...If its technology challange which drives your career ahead then knowing technically it all will satisfy you but if its money and power you eye in the long term then something like MBA is definitely goining to help.
