I am undergoing the transition to another job. I am still at the application process.

I feel that I am in a twisted world.

In this country (definitely not USA), it is my first time to apply. Everybody (agents and hr officers) asks for my current salary and expected salary right upfront. They probably dont even know my name yet, and they are asking that already. And how come they even ask such questions.

I am used to negotiating the salary myself; not the agent, or anyone doing it for me. And I would not need to tell anyone my current salary, no one.

I now feel that I have to give in. 99.99% of them insist. I even walked out on one who told me to look for somebody else to help me if I dont tell him my current salary.

I think revealing your current salary to anyone is the worst thing anyone can do towards the salary negotiation.

I'd recommend reading this tip.

Thanks.

Look at how ridiculous this is:

Please bring along the following documents:

1. ......
2. Latest Pay slip or any document to verify last drawn salary, if any.
3. ......

This is at the first 5 minutes of contact with an agent.

99.99% of about 50 agents/employers I have talked to in the past 2 weeks, asks the salary.

Anyway, it looks like I will need to research on how locals here do their thing; like it could be a culture thing. When I was in USA, there is more respect and ethics practiced in this area.

Hey, sticks and stones baby. And maybe a wee mention of my stuff:
