Isn't it an abandoned term? I saw on Sun site that they use JDK only in JDK1.0 and JDK 1.1 references. Current "standard edition" release is called "SDK". Is is correct to use "JDK" to refer to the current Java standard edition release?
Sun wants us to call it the Java SDK, now. When someone says JDK, I don't think their lawyers are sending cease and desist letters yet. Maybe they will start doing that after Java 1.5 is released.
Ok, thank you for warning.
By default, the last version of 1.3 installed itself in directory C:\jdk1.3.1_03. I believe most predecessors did something similar, willfully defying Sun's own naming conventions. However this heinous bug appears to have been corrected in 1.4.
