Hi all,
I am new to Java Ranch community and hope to find new domains of knowledge with lots of Java Gurus glued to the community . hey fellows please help me out here:
I have a project of a simple implementation of the SNMP protocol, please give some comments on where should i start cus im completely new to the subject and also please let me know good books on the topic of Java net. programming and SNMP implementations, the problem statement of the project is given below:
"This project is based on the idea to create a Network Management Tool that would enable a Network administrator to examine the status on any Network, interactively as the administrator would be able to check the load on the network and can also receive alerts from Agents docked on each managed node, if there is any trouble for e.g. when the network traffic reaches critical stages. The system also shows graphical analysis of the traffic; hence it is named the Interactive Network Analyzer which will use the SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) to communicate over the network. The alerts will also be recieved on a mobile device informing the admin on the move."
Ill be really thankfull to anyone who gives some input !!!

If you scan through the Book Review BunkHouse there are book that discuss Networking in Misc. Other J2EE and probably several other sections.
As to your project - I have NO idea where to start even talking to you. If you have a question to ask - ask it. But it looks like you are hoping for an analysis and design on a silver platter.

Oh yeah - aly,
Please change your name to be compliant with JavaRanch's naming policy.
Your displayed name should be 2 separate names with more than 1 letter each. We really would prefer that you use your REAL name.
You can change your name: here.

If you're going this route, O'Reilly just published an excellent NIO book. If you can use jdk 1.4, I think that's the direction you want to go.
All best,
