Days are changing now . People prefer UK too especially when the dollar rate is falling.
Even getting HSMP is easier then getting an H1B.H1B now has another factor added to it apart from all the other regular ones - LUCK!

I have been in the company of both, and can say that Americans appear to be friendlier and unbiased.

Well, much depends on where you end up in US or UK. You might be able to save more in Dallas than in London.

But,my doubt is,if UK is better ,then, why do most people prefer going to US only. Can anyone help me.

For the reasons stated before; HSMP is easier to get than H1B. Pound looks stronger than dollar at the moment. On top of that, if you are married, your spouse can work in UK as you dependent, which is not the case with H1B. Also, UK is closer to India

On the flip side, software companies in UK are very limited when compared to US. It is more likely that you will end up in a software division of a company whose primary business will be something else (say, banking for example). I have seen some people getting uncomfortable working in such places.

Thanks to all of you.
I am convinced with UK as you people told me.
But,As Mani said,if work profile can be in danger in UK,then i think US should be preferred.
The most convincing fact which is convincing me is : if 80% IT people are going to us,then better choose US.Atleast,it gives more security for your future than UK.
Please let me know if i am going towards right direction. And yah i am unmarried.

Following the crowd should be the least convincing factor.
What should matter is where YOU want to go.
Do your own research (like you're doing now), try to talk to people who been there. And most important: find the kind of work you want to do, then search for companies where you can do it.
Maybe you can go 1 year to each place and decide.

Hey Raj,

Look at List of world's most expensive cities

London is the second most expensive city to live in. After spending just 4 months here in London, I can say its's true. This rating is of current year only.

Not comparing with any other than any Indian city though, in India you can buy a 12inch pizza of Pizzahut at max Rs.300. Same size of Pizza would cost you around 12-15 in London. To use a bus, a small journey w/o having an Oyester card would cost 2, has anyone thought of paying Rs.160 for going to Borivali from Vile Parle in Mumbai? No doubt the bus service is far better than BEST, I just want to say that living in London is not cheaper.

Even if you think of moving to UK..i'd suggest you to wait till the new year...there are a few changes expected in Jan/Feb 2008 with respect to immigration and work permits..

Hi Badari,
Thanks for your suggestions. Now i have made mind for UK only.
But, i still have doubt for H1B.Some consultants take initial fee and some does not.Which should be preferred. Is there any best consultant in India who can arrange for H1B.

H1B consultants based out of India are a bundle of junkies. They would mostly require you to sign a contract and put you in some junk ,shitty job exploiting you to no end.

If you are really serious about working in the US ( or UK), consider going for higher education such as MS/MBA.
Landing in the US/UK through these consultants ( a better word for Body shoppers)might appear tempting because of the dollar/pound salary but the moment you look for other things such as job satisfaction, work content, ability to maintain a high end lifestyle, things appear pretty gloomy.

One last thing : These H1B jobs or for that matter jobs acquired through these consultants are absolutely low end jobs ,completely UNSUTIABLE for capable individuals .

So if you are interested in quality work, consider higher studies for a US/UK job or stay back in India.

All the best!

If you are looking at UK, the best way would be to apply for Highly Skilled Migrant Program(HSMP). You can find the details here

Get H1 through top four of India and don't pay anything for H1 b filing.
Or come by Desi Consultant, pay half fees for filing, work for them year or two and find your way. I would suggest to think practically instead of just thinking I just do this or just don't do this.

But before coming to US consider following points:

1. Moreover as mentioned now H1 B is a lottery so all depend on your luck.
2. Recession is coming so getting job is going to difficult as well as $ goes futher down on the Contrary pound goes up.

But in UK, getting job is not so easy as mentioned by every body.

I would say why not think for Australia, good pay package and a very good weather too.
