For core java go through
1. The Basic API generally used in programming. (lang and util packages)
2. Threads and synchronization
3. Strings, String Buffer, String Builder classes and how the equals and hashcode are implemented
4. Java 5 featues and enhancements
5. Annotation , Instrumentation, Atomic and Locks packages and their uses
6. Garbage Collection
7. Memory Management
8. Refresh the keywords and their uses (static, abstract, final, private, volatile, protected, public)
9. Serialization and externalization

Just refresh whatever you know in OOPS

Go through the http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/docs/api/. You should see java.util.concurrent , java.util.concurrent.atomic , java.lang.annotation and java.util.concurrent.locks.

You can do a google search for externalization.

If you worked with AWT, Swings and Applets or the position for which you are being interviewed needs it then yes otherwise it may not be necessary.
