Hello, I need some advice on how to build software which checks a server for updates and can then update itself while it is running. After a restart the application then loads up the new app. Is this possible in Java and do you have any tips or maybe example applications I can use to get this done? Thanks.

Maybe you can resolve your issues with Java Webstart. It will always download the latest version if a new version is available so you will always be working with the newest version.
