Yes and no. Yes if you think it is; no if you don't.

There's an important lesson here that transcends your question. When the industry bats around terminology, some people incorrectly assume there is a smoke-filled room where stone tablets are being carved with definitions. The terminology comes from the community and how we use it. It can change, often in a week.

Now, any reasonably informed person would have no problem characterizing Java as an object-oriented language. Most would agree that it's not pure as far as primitives are not objects.
