I got my java application done and like to license it before final release, but how do I do that by java? I don't like to buy the commercial license manager tools, any reference to guide me? or any open source products?

Thanks in advance!

"Tom"-
Welcome back to the JavaRanch! Please take a sec to adjust your display name to match the JavaRanch Naming policy. Basically you need to have a first and last name. You can tweak it here.

Thanks!

If you want to provide per machine basis license then you can use MAC addresss for reference. Or if you intend tio license on n/w then on IP.

So write a native wrapper to get these h/w details. Make a tool to generate a license file based on these files.

Whenever you run ur app try to verify the current environment with the license details.

You mean to say that you want to make your product sun certified? If, yes, check this.

I'm not sure what you are asking. AFAIK, you don't need a license from Sun to distribute your software. I'm certain that you can also distribute the JRE with your application if you want. you should check the license that comes with the JDK for details on these issues. And you should consult with a legal professional to get a better answer that is more likely to stand up in court, if it comes to that.
