Simply installing the jdk package obtained from java.sun.com for the
appropriate OS will be all you need to do to make java function for
most needs. There, usually, is not any reason to change any
environment settings after installation. At least not for most basic
purposes. If you are trying to run multiple jdk versions, i.e. a
different version for different programs, then things can get a little
sticky, but also then, generally not to bad.

hi angelina,

as a friendly request:

please

- try to give a question a self-speaking name. "welcome" is not so helpfull, "installing jdk on different plattforms" would be much better...

- try to ask yourself if you would think that this question is advanced. in the context of this forum it's certainly not. you get more and better (patient ;-) help in the beginner's section...

many greetings,
jan
