our project is such a way that vb can give command to mainframe using 3270 api. we are planning to design a user interface in java in such a way that java should call the vb dlls to send its input to mainframe.
if this method is not correct can any body say by what means java can interact with mainframe using 3270 api?
thanks in advance

You can either use JNI to access your VB DLL or try googling for java 3270 API. There seem to be a number of them available. See if any meet your needs.

If your VB DLLs expose COM objects you could use COM automation with a Java COM bridge like JACOB.

Then it would be silly to do things that way -- you'd have to learn a lot of things that are ultimately irrelevant to what you want to do. Instead find a Java API that lets you talk 3270 directly; don't use the DLLs at all.
