Hello Ranchers,
I have been in Java indusstry for last 5 years ( exp on Core Java,Spring,Hinernate,EJB,JMS,WSDL,Struts,JSP,XML,GWT etc etc..)
My Current salary is 7 Lacs per annum (expected to reach atleast 8.5 lacs after appraisal).
I am very happy with my current job profile ( Though my designation is developer I am playing role of leader and architect for last 1 year..Due to some issues which I cannot reveal, I would like to switch on and this time I want to make sure that I join a company with good project..
Well I wanted to know from you guys following things :

1> what would be best expected CTC in pune to ask for ? and this will be for a Product based company...I guess it should be between 10 & 12 Lacs but not sure whether I should ask for 10 or 11 or more..

2> I dont want to go into management side so what designation I can ask for> Technical architect seems very far from me ( even Junior Technical architect) and dont want to be team leader ( and then PM) ....

Its not that I am greedy ( I may be ) hence I want to go for more money, reason for asking more CTC are :
a> Its not that company is donating money ..we work we get paid..its business.
b> I dont want to leave next company due to less increments in next teo appraisals even after good work ..appraisal system in india ( especially pune) in patehtic in most of the companies...SO I want to negotiate when I am joining itself..

Any Suggestions are welcome as always...!

Thanks,
Vivek

In India there is no standards for salary. I know guys getting more then 15 Lacs per annum and same time some guys getting 5 Lacs per annum with 5 years experience in the same company. So probably you should take decision based on with how much salary you are comfortable.

There are quite many product based companies where you can contribute as independent developer where they need 1 to 10 years or more experience and you can choose such company.

Good luck

Thank you sir for your prompt and great reply...!That is really appreciated..!
Hey you have answered my question 2 clearly ..Now On Question 1 I agree it varies ..but When I go out sometimes companies/consultanys say hey you want more than 30% rise in your current salary ..so when you agree with lower one and join you find that others are paid much better ..I understand it depends on negotiations skills other than your technical/communication skills etc etc..But to negotiate one needs to arrive at some number and hence this post.

Hi Vivek,

I am not quite clear what you asked in your previous post. But normally when I change company I will quote X% hike keeping in mind the following factors:

1. My average hike in my current company
2. I may not get hike in new company at least for 1 to 1.5 years.

Even though I am quite happy with current salary if I am looking for a job change I won't accept if the new company gives me same salary because above 2nd point. But I wont be fixed on X% as other things may influence like the roles and responsibilities I am going to pay etc.,

There are couple of things to keep in mind:

1. In terms of pay, Pune is not at the top. If you are willing to relocate, consider B'lore/Hyderabad or Delhi NCR. The overall pay is much better.

2. In MNCs and large cos., no matter what you are making now, they *usually* don't offer more than 30%. So if you are making less than what market offers, you suffer in MNCs.

3. But small companies and startups disregard the experience/age/qualifications and are interested in whether you could do excellent work. Pay hikes are much bigger here (50%+ and above is quite normal).

So if it's about CTC, wait for your forthcoming hike, get *upgraded* payslips and then start scouting for jobs, keeping the above mentioned points in mind.
