hi ,
theres one more thing, if i use html converter and run that in browser it asks me to download the plugin from the suns site which is about 5 mb , so that means that if a client on the net wants to chat, hell have to download the module?? that does not sound a very good idea considering also that it takes considerable time to download over the net? Plz advice me, ill be thankful.

HI again,
Ha i posted 2 replies myself here but the thing is the program is working now with htmlconverter but its not really feasable for each client to download the plugin, is there a work around?? Plz let me know,

The client will need the plugin if you let HtmlConverter do its thing on the HTML, whether the plugin is required for the applet or not.
The only way around it is to not use anything that is not available in the least complete JVM your applet is targetted at (normally 1.1.4 in Netscape 4.0).
There is nothing you can do about the size of the plugin itself, which is why the plugin is normally not considered an option outside of a LAN (where you can pre-install it).
The most used libraries you cannot use without the plugin are:
Swing (JFC) and the Collections API (apart from Vector and HashTable). In general, avoid anything not included in 1.1

HI Jeroen,
Well u see that i had used swings in my aplication as i needed multi colored TextArea for the client part For the chat application i had built and since in awt there is no support so that u can selectively change the color of a particular line without changing that of others(eg red line for private message) , therefore i had to use textpane and swing.text package for the Attributes etc. which allowed me to imbed multi colored lines, so that is the problem im facing- if u think there is any class in java1.1 which will allw me to do that please let me know, Regards,
Daman

I am having the same problem. The HTML converter works for the IE but crash the Navigator every single time. Is there any reason why it is doing it ?? Please reply.
Thanks

Hi Shekar,
Well the html converter shuold work fine for both the IE and Navigator rather when u open navigator and u dont have the plugin downloaded it directs u to the sun site for plugin.Make sure u have the java2 plugin i e the java2 runtime for the browser installed on ur pc, it should work fine then, mine is working ok so should what u made, if any problem still comes let me know.
