JTable and Database

Not really sure if this should be here or in JDBC forum, but I'll start here.
I'm trying to display/edit/update/create Oracle data in a JTable in a Java application. I'm trying to use the JDBCAdapter class that ships with Java, but it seems awfully cumbersome.
Just wondering the best methodology to accomplish this. It seems like it should be a standard programming task, but examples don't seem to cover it.
Any ideas are appreciated.
