That is the lowest possible that, I believe, is allowed by Singapore government, for the type of working permit you will be given.

I believe, the Singapore government wont give a permit if the salary is less than that; that is, probably the S pass as they call it.

So there is a possibility that your company can pay more and they are just trying to get you to accept that low salary as much as they can.

Many people accept jobs at that salary.

You can live with it but wont have much savings.

Tax is low: take it as 4%.
Room: at taht salary you cant afford other than rent a room; around 400$ a month.
Food: take 200$ a month
transpo: take 50$ a month

So that leaves you with net savings of 2500 - 750 = 1750$ which is quite good.

But, as true j2ee developer with 2 years should probably take around 2750$ up to 4000$ in salary, depending on how good you sell yourself, and how tough your resume/background is.

You can take this 2500$ as a stepping stone.

If the contract is longer than 1 year, I wouldnt like it. After 1 year here, you can get another job with much better pay, 3500$ to 5000$.

If the contract is 2 years, you can still take it if you can take suffering 2 years with that salary. After 2 years here, you can easily get 4000$ to 5500$ salary.

All my computations above are for a single person.

Hi Jesus Angeles,

I think you have a good idea on Java/J2ee jobs at Singapore. I am 4 years experienced Java Professional. I am looking for a career at SG. I have applied for many jobs through the jobstreet and jobsdb web portal but there was no good response.

Could you please let me know if there is any other way in persuing a career at SG ? Some websites and some more info on that will be really usefull.

Or should i have to be there in person at SG to start a career ?

Please let me know.

Thanks
Divakar

Which country are you at?

I can hook you up with developers here who are from your country, so that you can ask them. I can also send your resume to companies that I think may be interested.

Can you send me an email to remind me? jcadong5@hotmail.com

Just like you, I also didnt know how to get a job overseas, when I was back in my country. Apparently, these job openings rarely get posted in newspapers. Some job agencies prefer word-of-mouth, or through their existing employees.

They visit countries to recruit and they dont publish in newspapers.

So, as career advisors advise, networking is, one of the best, if not the best way to get the job that you want. Since you are in the j2ee field, get to know as many j2ee developers, j2ee recruiters, etc.

So javaranch proved to be a good networking tool for you in this case.

Probably just like usa, the majority of immigrant software consultants here in singapore are from India. I know a few and I will hook you up with them.

Ill reply to your email.

What does this mean? Did you showed fake experience in the CV?
If yes, please do not do this as if one person does this, the blame comes to everyone. I don't recommend coming to Singapore on fake experience.

I think Surya is right..Dont do it..and if you still want to come, dont tell it to anyone. About your salary and experience combination, I think you are getting much lower..I am working in Singapore for last one year, here IT means Banking mainly, Mainly Support work and some development.
I have one year 9 months of experience out of which i spent first 6 months in training and I am getting quite higher than 2500, In My company, recently one guy with 2.5 years experience in .NET was hired on 4500 sing $.
So I think you better negotiate with you employer. with 2500$ its hard to survive. I dont think that you can survive with 750$. Better make it 1000 to 1200$, But again that depends on your standard of living and the way you spend money. I would suggest you to agree on atleast 3000 to 3300 SGD.

thanks and Regards,
Sunny

Actually I was selected from my campus, during final year of my engineering.
After six months of training there were some guys who were selected for different region like Dubai, Thailand, Indonesia, Singapore, Italy and Netherland. we were suppose to provide development support to our development team sitting in India. I think my performance was good thats why my company kept me in Singapore for one year. I completed three projects there. After that when my company was sending me back to India, I put my resume at Monster.com.sg, I got a call from one of the best IT company of Singapore. I got a job in that company.ore
But as per i think, if you want to be in Company directly without an agent, you have to be in Singpapore, However some Indian Company do take telephonic interviews.

One more thing, My SCJP Certification helps me a lot to find a job in Singapore. It worth a lot here. Infact in my Current company, they did not take my techincal Interview when they came to know that I am JAVA certified
, some company also accept Brain Bench scores.

pradip, This depends. I said most of IT work is related to Banking and finance, But this doesn't mean that there are no other opportunity. you will have a lot of other opportunity, but when its comes to banking there are hell of opportunity.

I dont have any Idea how much a 8 years experience guy will get.
But one of my friend who is business analyst with almost 10 years of experience is getting 6000 SGD.

I think 1 SGD is around 30-31 INR, so that's not a very good pay as such for a person with 10 years experience. How's the tax structure in Singapore?

Tax structure in Singapore is tricky (ofcourse to me )
High level picture is...

If you stay in Singapore < 60 days - No Tax<br /> If you stay in Singapore > 60 days and < 180 days - 15% Tax<br /> If you stay in Singapore > 180 days - 4% Tax

Usually I recommend to come here and work atleast for six months to avoid 15% tax. I came around an year back and found it is a good place with great lifestyle.
