Perhaps I overlooked it, but I miss some kind of statistics on javaranch forum. Number of ranchers total / daily visit (per forum) / daily posts (per forum) / country of origin / etc.

Is that a third party tool integrated with Javaranch?

It is a third party tool. I'm not sure what you mean by "integrated with Javaranch". We display it and they calculate statistics. We also display Google ads and occasionally other banners.

What exactly happens when you click on that link. Does the Javaranch API integrates with their API so that they get the data and do the statistics?? or how does that happen?? I'm interested to know more about it. Though it might be silly for me to ask it. I'm just keen to know how it works. It looks interesting to me.

Every page that get tracked contains an image that gets loaded from their server. I'd guess that they simply count the number of images loaded to get the statistics.

When you click the link, you simply go to their website showing statistics for our site. Just a simple link, no magic there.

So there's no big deal in this. Just a simple counter...looks fine but how do they track the ip addresses?

how do they track the ip addresses?


The tracking image is loaded by the browser via HTTP, and the HTTP request includes the IP address.

Looking at the stats, they seem to be a bit behind times - Windows Vista isn't listed, and Firefox seems to be lumped in with the Netscape browsers.
