Hi all,
I haven't seen any topics that mirror my situation (or I may have not looked hard enough) so I am creating a new
thread about a career conundrum of mine.
I graduated in computer engineering last year from one of the National Institutes of Technology in India. My marks were not very great and so I didn't get any chance to sit for campus placements. Same story in job hunting after getting out from college. Along the way I got interested in
Java (thanks to this forum and also due to Kathy Sierra
) and cleared my
SCJP 1.4 exam. About that time I got a job as a features writer in a technology magazine and lost touch with programming in general and Java in particular.
This was in July 2007. Right now my interest in Java has rekindled and I am currently on a crash course to get my touch back. So far it has been going great. However I want to get into IT industry and wonder if there are companies that accept people in my position. I am based in Bombay but I have no problems in shifting anywhere. Is there a chance that people who have poor grades but decent programming skills can get into companies without having to fake their resumes? Do I need to take any additional certification exams? Please guide me.
