Last night I asked a very simple question I am very sorry my choose of words (a word that started with 'd') did not suite some people here but I NEVER insulted anybody at this forum, yet three members of this forum choose to publicly insult me here.
I feel this could of been fixed up a lot better than the way it was haddled by the moderator and the two other members,
I would like to say if I was offended by the language used at this forum I would not stick my boot and made my feelings public as these three people did I would forget it and "got on with life"
And that is were the difference lyes, I may of used a word starting with 'd' if anybody else had of used I would of moved on and left the rest to the moderator if he or she had felt their posting need to be fixed up.
Let's move this to the JavaRanch forum, where we talk about how this site is run.

I'm quite sure nobody insulted you. Several people pointed out that strong language is not appropriate on this site, no matter who it's directed at. (That's how fair we are - we prevent folks from using bad language against the very people who are causing us trouble by inappropriately using the JavaRanch name.)
In general, it's good to keep in mind that this site in moderated, and that there are quite a few moderators. If just one of them thinks a post is "Not Nice", she/he is free to point that out, and take appropriate action. It matters little whether the original poster thought her/his words were nice; if a moderator thinks they aren't, then that's what counts.
This may sound like an arbitrary process, but I can assure you it's not. The moderators here are good folks, and they keep the site running smoothly by investing no small amount of their own time, and have quite a bit of experience with what kind of language is likely to cause problems. One thing you shouldn't expect is political correctness - if we think it's good for the site, then it doesn't matter much whether we think someone might be upset. With thousands of visitors each day, we can't possibly please everyone. We try, but there are definite limits. In this case, those were breached. [ October 12, 2007: Message edited by: Ulf Dittmer ]
Just to clarify: all of the people who talked to you about that message were "moderators". We call them "bartenders" and "sheriffs" here. It wasn't "the moderator and two other people", but rather three members of the JavaRanch staff.
To clarify something else: any time any of the staff sees any language posted in any forum that s/he thinks any member might be offended by, s/he will delete it. It's really very simple. We shouldn't need to discuss this any further. [ October 12, 2007: Message edited by: Ernest Friedman-Hill ]
Yes, the moderators are great! Responses on this site never seem to get "ugly". The only other sites I visit a lot for the same reasons (lots of information and general "niceness") are the Microsoft forums, which are also moderated heavily.
Your links are also great! I've bookmarked "lawn care". The "fleas" link was interesting - we have pets, and have had no flea problems since we got stuck in northern Illinois. When we lived in Georgia we had horrible flea problems - with the same pets. I'm told that it's because fleas can't overwinter successfully up here -
Oh the stink of it! Smell my tiny ad!
