Hi! I have this problem trying to play the rule roundup game.
Tha page loads but then the game doesn't start and the message "Gettin' yer horse ready..." doesn't go away.
I've updated my JRE to 1.6.0 build 1.6.0_03-b05.
I'm running win xp essential edition and mozilla firefox 2.0.0.9
Thanks a lot!

Welcome to JavaRanch.

Are there any (error) messages either in the browser status bar or the Java Console?

Yes! I didn't notice the messages before. This is what the java console says:

Well, applets are supposed to be allowed to contact the server they are downloaded from, which is what this applet is doing (64.78.181.41 is our server) and being blocked. Did you download the applet and try to run it locally, or did you find it somewhere else besides on the JavaRanch site? Have you made some change to your machine's configuration to prohibit all network connections by applets?

Hmmmm not that I remember. Java is running with it's default configuration and I didn't change anything in firefox. Before I updated my JRE I was able to play the game. I don't know if that's causing the problem .

What do you mean by "downloaded the script"? What is "the script"?

The applet contacts a servlet on the www.javaranch.com server which loads the questions and answers.

I find I have the same problem using mozilla firefox 2.0.0.9 and JRE 1.6.0_03-b05.

However, the game still loads and works in IE6 and IE7 -- any way you can use one of those browsers while we investigate this?

It sounds like this could be a Windows problem or a Java 1.6 problem, but just for the record, I have no problems with Firefox 2.0.0.9 on Mac OS X using Java 1.5.
